110 Teachers Feted in Machakos for Exemplary Performance.
Kenya Connect, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County, has recognized the outstanding efforts of 110 teachers from 65 primary and secondary public schools.
The NGO, committed to empowering students and teachers in rural Kenya, honored the educators for their exceptional contributions.
Categories of Recognition
The teachers were acknowledged through the Kenya Connect Teacher Recognition Award, which celebrated their achievements in five categories:
- Library Champion
- Technology
- Beyond Duty Award
- Leadership Award
- School Award
Partnership with Local Schools
Rebecca Migwambo, the Coordinator of Professional Learning at Kenya Connect, explained that the organization has partnered with 51 primary schools and 14 secondary schools in Mwala.

This partnership has focused on empowering teachers to provide quality education and nurturing learners.
Migwambo emphasized that the teachers’ dedication and sacrifice toward their students were key factors in their recognition, with the awards aimed at boosting morale and inspiring others.
Teachers’ Capacity Building
Migwambo further noted the importance of teachers upskilling in the 21st century, stating that teachers must enhance their capacities to meet the evolving demands of students.
Award Recipients
Several teachers were recognized for their unique contributions:
- Beyond Duty Award: Daniel Mutiso of Kombuini Primary was honored for introducing a compost toilet using sawdust, a project that significantly improved environmental conservation and sanitation in his school, which faces water challenges.
- Library Champion: Veronica Muthusi of Miondoni Primary was celebrated for her dedication to promoting a reading culture. She personally transported her Grade 4 learners to the Wamunyu library, where they could access a variety of books.
- Best Technology Teacher: Lawrence Kasivi of Mangolota Primary was acknowledged for his digital skills, which he imparted to both regular and special needs students. His efforts in promoting digital literacy have boosted student performance.
Partnership Impact on Technology Education
Kasivi appreciated Kenya Connect’s partnership, noting that his school benefited from resources such as laptops and Chromebooks.
