1,714 Students Graduate at Kiambu Polytechnic’s 20th Grand Ceremony.
Kiambu National Polytechnic (KINAP) celebrated its 20th graduation ceremony on Friday, with 1,714 graduates awarded qualifications in various technical disciplines.
The event underscored the institution’s pivotal role in advancing Kenya’s industrialization through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The Education Cabinet Secretary’s (CS) message, delivered by Franklin Mukuna, Director of TVET in the State Department of TVET, highlighted the Government’s focus on fostering practical, industry-relevant skills.
The CS emphasized that equipping youth with appropriate skills is vital for Kenya’s economic transformation under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. It was noted that TVET equips trainees with sustainable, job-market-ready skills to meet current demands.
Institutional Achievements and Innovations
KINAP Chief Principal, Sammy Waititu, detailed the institution’s milestones, including a shift to Competence-Based Education and Training (CBET) and the successful implementation of dual training programs in industrial mechatronics.
He reiterated that innovation, technology, and skilled labor drive national transformation, with TVET at the forefront.

Waititu also outlined sustainability efforts such as the installation of solar systems for student hostels, expansion of water harvesting capacity to over one million liters, and the establishment of a vibrant tree nursery with 45,000 seedlings.
These initiatives are complemented by environmental conservation projects, including tree planting in Kinare Forest.
The ceremony’s theme, “TVET: The Master Key for Transformative Skills Towards Kenya’s Industrialization,” emphasized the strategic importance of technical education in driving industrial progress.
Mwenda Kiara, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads and Public Works, delivered a speech on behalf of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, urging graduates to embrace entrepreneurship as a viable career path.
Graduates were encouraged to leverage their skills for self-employment opportunities, contributing to economic growth in a landscape with fewer white-collar jobs.
Contributions to National Development
Fredrick Kairu, Chairman of the Governing Council, highlighted TVET’s role in addressing youth unemployment, fostering innovation, and supporting Kenya’s industrialization.
He noted that TVET institutions are essential for producing the middle-level human resources required for economic advancement.
