3,500 Grade 9 Classrooms Complete as Govt Targets 18,000 by January.
With only two months left before the Grade 9 transition, the Ministry of Education has only completed 3,500 of the targeted 11,000 classrooms.
In August, the ministry announced plans to construct 18,000 classrooms to accommodate Grade 9 learners.
Of these, 11,000 were to be built with the help of development partners, while 7,000 were to be funded through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Ogamba reported that 3,500 classrooms have been completed, and an additional 7,500 are under construction, with completion rates ranging from 22 percent to 68 percent.
Another 5,000 classrooms will be built through partnerships between the ministry and other stakeholders.
He reassured all involved that the necessary classrooms for Grade 9 learners would be ready by January 2025.

The CBC framework aims to transition 60 percent of learners from junior school into the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) pathway.
Public junior schools lack proper laboratories and rely on basic equipment, which hinders the goals of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
