Nyamira Girls Eye East African Hockey Title Despite National Setback

Nyamira Girls are set to compete for the East African hockey title at the 21st edition of the East Africa School Sports Championships, which will be held from August 16 to 27 in Bukedea, Uganda.

The team enters the competition as the defending champions and is determined to retain their title.

National Secondary Schools Term One Games: All Set to Kick Off in Machakos

Despite a recent 2-1 loss to Tigoi Girls in the national finals, Head Coach Stephen Kigai remains optimistic about their chances in Uganda.

He expressed that the team would approach the tournament with renewed energy and dedication to represent Kenya proudly on the international stage.

Coach Kigai acknowledged the challenges posed by local rivals but emphasized that their previous experience as champions would be advantageous.

He shared that extensive preparations have been made to ensure the team is ready for the competition.

The entire Second Term was devoted to intensive training, which included numerous friendly matches against experienced clubs to hone their skills.

In addition to physical training, the team also focused on mental preparation to maintain their competitive edge.

Key Preparation Strategies

  1. Intensive Training: Utilized the entire Second Term for rigorous training sessions.
  2. Friendly Matches: Engaged in numerous matches against experienced clubs to sharpen skills.
  3. Mental Preparation: Arranged special coaching sessions to enhance mental sharpness.

Coach Kigai expressed his team’s dedication to bringing the trophy back home. He assured supporters that the team is ready for the big stage and is committed to putting forth their best effort in the upcoming championship.

Previous Achievements

Last year, Nyamira Girls secured the championship with a 2-0 victory over the 2022 champions, Kakunglu Memorial Secondary School of Uganda. This victory has bolstered their confidence as they prepare to defend their title once again.
