Ruto made this statement during the Gold Award presentation to graduates of the President’s Award Kenya at State House, Nairobi, on October 17.

He emphasized that the current promotion of 46,000 intern teachers to permanent roles would help fill critical staffing gaps in the education sector, ensuring more children can access schooling.

The President highlighted that the government’s commitment to youth development extended beyond academics, focusing also on character building, skill enhancement, and talent development.

He explained that the strategy also included expanding employment opportunities, fostering innovation, and supporting entrepreneurship among the youth.

Increased Education Funding

Ruto also noted that the education budget had increased by Ksh127 billion over the last two years. This increase allowed the government to allocate more resources for universities and technical education under the newly implemented student-centered funding model.

During the ceremony, 1,517 Gold Awardees who excelled in various fields were presented with certificates of commendation by the President.
