KUPPET Wins Trade Union of the Year Award.
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Vihiga branch has been honored with the Trade Union of the Year Award.
This recognition highlights the branch’s significant efforts in advocating for its members, particularly through its strong presence in both print and electronic media.
In addition to its media visibility, the leadership of the Vihiga branch was acknowledged for initiating various welfare programs aimed at supporting its members.
These efforts have contributed to the branch’s reputation as a dynamic and influential union.
The prestigious award was presented to the branch’s Executive Secretary, Sabala Inyeni, by Joseph Lunani, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Commerce, Trade, and Cooperatives, during a glittering event at Sosa Cottages in Mbale.

At one point, Sabala and other branch officials were removed from the union’s payroll for publicly opposing the controversial Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program.
Additionally, Sabala has shown interest in running for a senior position in the union’s National Executive Board (NEB) during the 2026 national elections.
