TSC 4-Day CBC Retooling Programme for Junior Secondary Teachers: Venues, Dates & Activities.
TSC, in collaboration with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), will retool 56,000 JSS teachers, including those under internship. The training spans four days, targeting teachers handling languages, sciences, mathematics, humanities, and technical subjects.
Attendees will receive allowances: up to KSh 12,000 for those in ASAL (Arid and Semi-Arid Lands) and hard-to-staff areas, and KSh 3,000 for teachers from other regions.
Dr. Nancy Macharia, TSC CEO, highlighted in Parliament that the commission has recruited 48,550 teachers over two financial years to enhance JSS staffing.
Of these, 39,550 are interns, and 9,000 are on permanent terms. An additional 8,378 primary school teachers have transitioned to JSS roles, bringing the total JSS teaching force to 56,928. Currently, TSC is recruiting another 20,000 interns for JSS.
Disciplinary Action for Non-Compliance
TSC officials, including County, Sub-County, and Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), have issued stern warnings of disciplinary measures against teachers who miss the three-day retooling exercise without prior permission.
Teachers unable to attend due to valid reasons such as illness or maternity are required to seek formal approval from relevant authorities.
