KNUT Urges TSC to Revise Teachers’ Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).
The chairman of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) for Kakamega East Sub-county, Bro Nelson Ilamoka, has emphasized the need for urgent reforms to the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) for teachers, citing widespread stagnation in job groups as a major concern.
Ilamoka highlighted that the current guidelines have caused many teachers to remain stuck in the same job group for extended periods without opportunities for promotion.
Addressing a recent KNUT delegates’ conference in Mombasa, he reported that various resolutions were discussed to improve teachers’ working conditions.
One of the primary issues was the CPG, which he noted has been a significant impediment to professional advancement for educators.

Speaking at the funeral of Madam Melvin Mulinya, a teacher at Lugango Secondary School in Isukha South Ward, Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County, Ilamoka underscored that it is unlawful for teachers to stay in the same job group for more than three years.
He called on the Teachers Service Commission and the government to conduct a thorough review of the guidelines. He stressed that particular attention should be given to teachers in P1 and P2 categories to ensure they have opportunities to advance in their careers.
Call to Action for Parents
In addition to advocating for reforms, Ilamoka, who is also the headteacher at Khayega Primary School, urged parents to plan ahead financially for the upcoming school year.
He reminded them to balance their festive celebrations with the responsibility of raising school fees for their children.
