TSC Opens Applications for Teacher Replacements
Teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) under internship terms can now apply for the 8,707 advertised teacher replacement positions.
The Commission has announced that intern teachers are eligible to apply for these vacancies online before the specified deadline.
In a significant policy shift, TSC is now allowing teachers not on permanent and pensionable (P&P) employment to compete for P&P positions.

Previously, intern teachers were excluded from applying for arising vacancies, whether for mass recruitment or replacements.
Intern Teachers Receive Additional Marks
To encourage participation, the Commission awards 50 marks on its scoresheet to teachers who have served under TSC as interns. This move aims to boost the chances of qualified interns transitioning into permanent roles.
TSC currently has 46,000 intern teachers who have already been issued employment letters and are set to begin their P&P employment in January 2025.
Additionally, 20,000 more interns were recently recruited for junior secondary schools and are scheduled to start their one-year contracts in January 2025.
Application Portal Activation
The TSC online platform for teacher replacements was activated on December 31, hours after the closure of online applications for teacher promotions.
This follows the Commission’s earlier advertisement on December 17 for 19,943 promotion vacancies, targeting teachers from job group C1 to D4. Applications for promotions closed at midnight on December 30, 2024.
The replacement exercise has now begun, with 5,862 posts allocated for primary schools, 21 for junior schools, and 2,824 for secondary schools. The application window is open for fourteen days, from December 31, 2024, to January 13, 2025.
Eligibility and Requirements
Candidates seeking these replacement posts must meet specific criteria:
- Be a Kenyan citizen.
- Hold at least a P1 certificate for primary school positions or a diploma in education for junior and secondary school positions.
- Be a registered teacher with TSC.
Applications must be submitted online through the TSC website or the dedicated teacher recruitment portal. Manual applications will not be considered.
Natural Attrition Behind Vacancies
The replacement positions arise due to natural attrition, including retirements, resignations, and deaths. Teachers recruited will serve on permanent and pensionable terms.
Guidelines for Applicants
Applicants are advised to adhere to the TSC Recruitment Guidelines for the 2024/2025 financial year. Shortlisted candidates must present original academic and professional certificates.
Filing more than one application will result in disqualification.
Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously been employed by TSC. Additionally, persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply, as the Commission is an equal opportunity employer.

Fraud Prevention Measures
TSC has cautioned applicants against fraudsters who may claim to offer assistance in the recruitment process.
The exercise is free of charge, and any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office, police station, or via the provided contact lines and email address.
For detailed information on vacancies per county or school, applicants are advised to visit the TSC website. The application portal will remain open until midnight on January 13, 2025.
