2024 KCSE Exam Results Out in 10 Days, Says Education PS.
The Ministry of Education has dispelled concerns about delays in releasing the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) is finalizing the analysis of scores and grades within the usual timeline.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang emphasized that there are no deviations from previous schedules, noting that results have consistently been released in January for the past two years.
Speaking during an education tour in Mombasa, he refuted claims that delays were intended to manipulate results in favor of prestigious national schools.
He attributed the perceived delay to a deliberate effort to ensure thoroughness in the process.
Largest Candidature and Detailed Analysis
The 2024 KCSE examination recorded the highest number of candidates in its history, a factor that a Knec source acknowledged contributed to the extended time needed for analysis.
The council is also working on the results of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), completed by Grade 6 learners ahead of their transition to junior secondary school in January 2025.

The source revealed that Knec’s focus on accuracy stems from examiner concerns about examination malpractices.
While Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba described these cases as minimal, the council is taking all necessary precautions to detect and address any irregularities.
Ensuring Examination Integrity
Dr. Kipsang reassured stakeholders about the credibility of the results, highlighting the robust structures and systems established to ensure fairness.
He noted that adequate time had been allocated for examiners to thoroughly assess the scripts, ensuring students receive results reflective of their four-year effort.
Education stakeholders, led by the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha), called on Knec to maintain impartiality in marking.
They also proposed halting school rankings to reduce the pressure that might lead to result manipulation.
Kessha National Chairman Willy Kuria urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to revise promotion criteria for educators, suggesting a shift from performance-based evaluations to holistic student development.
He also called for measures to protect examinations from political interference.
Historical Context of Reforms
Since 2016, reforms initiated under former Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i have streamlined examination processes, enabling results to be released promptly after marking. Previously, prolonged delays were often linked to result manipulation.
Dr. Kipsang assured the public that the current system is designed to uphold integrity and transparency, building on these reforms.
The Ministry confirmed receiving reports of cheating during the 2024 KCSE exams, including collusion and possession of unauthorized materials.
