Rising Cases of Extrajudicial Killings and Disappearances
The nation remains embroiled in controversy as incidents of extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances escalate.
The latest case involves Ibrahim Hilal Mwiti, a 24-year-old activist whose body was discovered in a mortuary seven weeks after he was reported missing. His remains were found at Thika Level Five Hospital mortuary on Friday, December 3.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has reported 61 alleged killings by police and 73 cases of abductions or disappearances since June 2024.

Within December 2024 alone, seven new abduction cases were documented, with six individuals still unaccounted for. These reports have brought the total number of cases currently under KNCHR investigation to 29.
The recurring incidents paint a bleak picture of rising impunity and underline the urgent need for justice and accountability in addressing these human rights violations.
