Old Giants Bounce Back to Reclaim Academic Glory: KCSE Results.
Prominent Kenyan schools made a triumphant return in last year’s KCSE examinations, reclaiming their top positions with impressive grades in the recently released results.
Alliance High School, Kapsabet Boys, Kenya High, Starehe Boys, and Strathmore School demonstrated their enduring academic prowess.
Starehe Boys Centre was a standout, achieving a mean score of 10.1, marking a significant recovery after years of underperformance.
This was part of a remarkable showing by traditional giants, with Alliance High School securing a mean score of 10.31, placing second nationally. Kapsabet Boys (10.15), Kenya High (10.13), and Strathmore School (10.09) completed the top six positions.
Despite these successes, 712,000 candidates failed to meet the university entry threshold of a C plus, an increase of 18,000 from the previous year.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba addressed the situation, stating that candidates who missed or failed the exam could retake it in July. He emphasized that adult learners also have the opportunity to register for the mid-year examination.
As schools celebrated, technical challenges delayed access to results. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) explained that the portal had been overwhelmed by up to 300,000 hits per second. KNEC assured the public that all candidates would receive their results promptly.
Regional and National Success
Several other traditional powerhouses maintained their dominance, including Our Lady of Mt Carmel MaryHill Girls (10.05), Alliance Girls (10.04), Moi High School Kabarak (9.89), and Mang’u High School (10.01).
In the Nyanza region, Maranda High School posted an impressive 9.69, while in Rift Valley, Kabianga High School achieved 9.65. Central Kenya schools like Murang’a High (9.72) and Kagumo High (9.54) also performed well.

Education CS Julius Ogamba noted, “This year’s results highlight both the triumphs and challenges in our education system, and we are committed to ensuring every learner has a fair chance.”
