Teacher Replacement: TSC Outlines Mandatory Documents for Recruitment Verification.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has outlined the necessary documents for teacher verification as part of its recruitment drive to replace 8,707 teachers who left due to natural attrition.
This process aims to fill 5,862 positions in primary schools, 21 in junior schools, and 2,824 in secondary schools.
Document Verification Requirements
The verification exercise is currently underway across all sub-counties. Applicants must present both original and legible photocopies of required documents for evaluation. These requirements vary for primary and post-primary school teachers as detailed below:
For Primary School Teachers:
- National identification card
- Certificate of Registration as a teacher
- Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (UDPTE) certificate, if applicable
- Primary Teacher Education (PTE) certificate
- KCSE certificate or its equivalent, including certificates for resits
- KCPE certificate or its equivalent, including certificates for resits
- Letter of certification of results by KNEC, where applicable
- Primary and secondary school leaving certificates, along with other testimonials
- National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) card, if applicable
- Sworn affidavit explaining name variations under the Oaths and Statutory Declarations Act, Cap 15 of Kenyan laws
For Post-Primary School Teachers:
- National identification card
- Certificate of Registration as a teacher
- Diploma or degree certificates with official transcripts
- KCSE certificate or its equivalent, including certificates for resits
- KCPE certificate or its equivalent, including certificates for resits
- Primary and secondary school leaving certificates, along with other testimonials
- National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) card, if applicable
- Sworn affidavit explaining name variations under the Oaths and Statutory Declarations Act
- Letter of certification of results by KNEC, where applicable
Intern Teachers and Persons with Disabilities
Intern teachers are only required to present their identity cards for verification. Persons with disabilities must indicate their disability status and the nature of the disability for placement purposes.
Once verification concludes, TSC Sub-County Directors will compile a Merit List of verified applicants. The Commission stated that these Merit Lists will be accessible to the public upon request, ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2019.
TSC noted, “The Merit Lists will be shared transparently, safeguarding the integrity of the recruitment process.”
TSC has assigned additional marks to specific groups to promote fairness:
- 30 marks for teachers currently employed under TSC internship terms
- 5 marks for holders of PTE certificates who upgraded to UDPTE
The recruitment positions are offered on permanent and pensionable terms, ensuring job security for successful candidates.
