West Mugirango MP Distributes 1,260 Lockers and Desks to 13 JSS Schools.
In a significant move to support Junior Secondary School (JSS) education, West Mugirango Member of Parliament Stephen Mogaka has distributed 1,260 desks and lockers to 13 JSS institutions within his constituency.
The initiative, aimed at improving learning conditions, underscores his commitment to quality education for Grade Nine students transitioning to JSS.
During the handover ceremony held at the constituency offices, Mogaka emphasized the importance of maintaining the status of Grade Nine learners as secondary school students, despite their continued education in primary school institutions.
He noted that the lockers and desks would be installed in newly constructed classrooms to boost the students’ self-esteem and provide a conducive learning environment.
Mogaka revealed that efforts are underway to ensure all primary schools hosting JSS learners have spacious and well-equipped classrooms. He pointed out that classroom construction commenced during the school holidays, and the delivery of desks and chairs completes the setup of these modern learning spaces.
The MP expressed his dedication to raising education standards in West Mugirango to ensure the constituency excels both regionally and nationally, stating that education serves as a powerful equalizer for all backgrounds.
The Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) chair for the constituency, James Osindi, commended Mogaka’s efforts. Osindi, who is also the headteacher of Mobamba DOK Primary School, remarked that the improved learning environment has sparked excitement among students. He noted that the equipped classrooms have instilled a sense of pride in learners, making them feel like secondary school students.
“The learning environment for our learners has been greatly improved and our learners are very excited and eager to learn from their brand new and fully equipped classrooms a gesture which are really made them feel that they are secondary school students.” Mr. Osindi said.
Every JSS school in the constituency is set to receive at least 45 desks and lockers. However, schools with higher enrollment, such as Tente COG Primary School, will receive 90 units to meet their specific needs.
Ms. Lydia Ong’ondo, another KEPSHA official present at the event, urged school administrators to take proper care of the facilities.

She highlighted that safeguarding these resources would ensure their availability for future JSS cohorts, emphasizing that loss or neglect could disrupt learning. Ong’ondo also stressed the importance of maintaining infrastructure to motivate both learners and teachers, ultimately fostering better performance.
She remarked that a well-facilitated classroom not only enhances the teaching and learning experience but also inspires students to achieve excellent results. The focus, she added, should be on preserving these essential facilities to serve their intended purpose effectively.
Through this initiative, MP Mogaka and stakeholders have demonstrated a collective commitment to advancing education standards and creating an inspiring learning environment for JSS students in West Mugirango.
