Cheplaskei Students Trek 20km at Night to Protest School Mismanagement.
A wave of student unrest unfolded in Uasin Gishu County late Tuesday night as students from Cheplaskei Secondary School marched 20 kilometers to air their grievances before the County Commissioner.
Deputy County Commissioner Lilian Lagat revealed that authorities were alerted to the unusual protest around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.
Authorities quickly dispatched security teams to ensure the safety of the students during their trek. According to the Uasin Gishu County Education Director, John Thiringi, the students were peaceful throughout the journey and caused no damage.
The protesting students cited inadequate teaching and poor management as their main concerns.
Thiringi confirmed that education officials had engaged the students upon their arrival and assured them that their grievances would be addressed. Following these assurances, the students agreed to return to school.
Thiringi commended the security officers for their swift action in safeguarding the students and also lauded the learners for maintaining order during the demonstration.

He expressed commitment to resolving the issues raised and emphasized that stakeholders were already in discussions to address the matter.
Authorities further acknowledged the peaceful nature of the protest, highlighting the students’ orderly approach to expressing their frustrations. The County Commissioner’s office reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that solutions are implemented promptly.
