EACC and KICD Collaborate to Integrate Ethics into Kenya’s Education System.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Officer, Abdi A. Mohamud, engaged in a high-level discussion with the Director and CEO of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Prof. Charles Ochieng’ Ong’ondo, to devise innovative approaches for incorporating ethics and integrity into Kenya’s education curriculum.
This initiative aligns with the Commission’s wider commitment to curbing corruption and unethical behavior by addressing youth at a formative stage, acknowledging that instilling values early plays a crucial role in shaping character.
During the meeting, which took place at the KICD offices on Tuesday, the importance of value-based education was highlighted as an effective tool in the fight against corruption and moral decline in society.
The leaders stressed that integrating ethics and integrity into the curriculum would equip young people with the fundamental knowledge and principles required for ethical conduct. This would enable them to confront contemporary challenges and resist corrupt influences.
The CEOs affirmed their commitment to fostering collaboration between EACC and KICD in advancing comprehensive value-based education aimed at inspiring students to uphold integrity.
Both organizations plan to explore several initiatives, including conducting studies on the current state of ethics education in schools, reviewing the curriculum, and developing integrity-based educational materials suited for different stages of learning.
