Chuka Constituency Covers TVET Recruitment Fees for Students.
Chuka/Igambang’ombe Member of Parliament, Patrick Munene, has reduced the financial burden on students joining Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges by financing their recruitment fees through the National Government Constituency Development Fund.
During a TVETs and Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) recruitment event at Chuka Picnic Grounds, Munene reaffirmed his commitment to education by pledging to establish a dedicated desk in his office to streamline the recruitment process.
Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) CEO, Dr. Mercy Wahome, who was in attendance, stressed the necessity of collective support in strengthening TVET programs.
She acknowledged the government’s role in facilitating these initiatives, stating that without such support, progress in the sector would be significantly hampered.
Dr. Mercy Wahome highlighted that students are the true representatives of these programs, with a strong collaboration between students and management fostering continuous improvement.
She called on the community to recognize and respect students’ various academic achievements, emphasizing that the government has established education pathways for learners at all levels.
Prioritizing TVET Enrollment
She explained that students who attained a grade C and below in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are given greater priority in TVET enrollment than those who scored B and above. This approach ensures all students receive tailored opportunities for skill development and career growth.
Additionally, Dr. Wahome announced that KUCCPS is committed to guiding the youth through career advisory services and recognizing prior learning for individuals without formal certificates but possessing relevant skills.
She assured continued collaboration with MPs’ offices to offer direct assistance and support to young people.

Chuka Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner’s representative, Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Wilfred Odhiambo, urged the community to adopt a proactive mindset instead of consistently voicing complaints.
He encouraged students to take advantage of TVET opportunities, underlining the government’s efforts to make these institutions nearly free for all.
The ACC reassured that students of all academic levels, from grade A to E, have available vacancies, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting each student’s educational journey.
