KNEC Invites Teachers for Grade 9 KJSEA Examiner Training, Lists Training Locations.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has begun inviting teachers for in-person training to prepare them for marking the Grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA). The training is set to run from Monday, April 14th to Thursday, April 17th, 2025.
Teachers who had initially applied for training as KJSEA examiners and item developers were invited. Those who were shortlisted and participated in online orientation confirmed via SMS that they had been invited to attend face-to-face training sessions.
The training will take place in various centres, organized by subject:
- Kiswahili – Machakos Girls
- English – Maryhill Girls
- Business Studies – Murang’a TTC
- Agriculture – Kilimambogo TTC
- Mathematics – St. Francis Girls, Mang’u
- Geography & History – Sunshine Secondary School
- CRE – Machakos TTC
- Biology, Chemistry, & Physics – St. George Secondary School
Background and Training Structure
Originally scheduled for March, the training was postponed to April due to school activities that would have interfered with the program. After shortlisting, selected applicants were required to attend an introductory online course before proceeding to physical training.
KNEC had shared that the training would include both virtual and physical sessions. Teachers were notified through the application portal and SMS, with clear instructions on how to access online training resources.
However, concerns have been raised by some teachers who claimed they were excluded from the process despite paying the mandatory fee of KES 10,500. Others faced technical difficulties accessing the online training package. KNEC advised affected individuals to reach out for assistance.
Assessment Timeline and Exam Structure
The first cohort under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) will sit for their final junior school assessment, KJSEA, between October and November 2025. This assessment will comprise theory papers, projects, and practicals.
In May, students will begin with the Creative Arts and Sports Project, which will extend through July. During July, they will also complete a Pre-Technical Studies Project. The main assessment will span eight days, from October 24 to November 5, 2025.
Candidate registration for the 2025 KJSEA concluded at midnight on March 28, 2025.

Examiner Training Requirements
To qualify as an examiner, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be a practicing teacher or tutor in the relevant subject area at the appropriate level.
- Be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or Public Service Commission.
- Hold at least a Diploma in Education.
- Possess a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
- Not be under interdiction or any form of disciplinary action.
- Have a recommendation from their institution’s head.
- Be 50 years of age or younger.
Tutors from Teachers Training Colleges and TVET institutions are particularly encouraged to apply for the Home Science subject.

Application Process for Examiner Training
Applicants are instructed to:
- Visit the KNEC examiners portal via https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke.
- Log in with CP2 account credentials. If the password is forgotten, reset it by entering a mobile number in the format (2547********).
- Create an account if one does not exist, then follow prompts to gain login credentials.
- Once logged in, complete and save a personal profile.
- Click “Apply for Training” on the dashboard and select a preferred subject vacancy.
Training slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and only qualified applicants who meet all criteria and submit complete documentation will be considered.
