In his May 9, 2024, directive, the Education Ministry urged schools to develop emergency response plans to face potential dangers and natural calamities.

Before Monday’s reopening, PS Belio Kipsang authorized a review of institutions to determine their safety and preparation for resuming lessons.

On the other hand, day schools have been directed to safeguard the safety of pupils traveling to and from school, with boarding students limited to travel between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Schools will also be expected to monitor attendance and notify ministry officials of absenteeism.

Additionally, the government gave instructions to schools to carry out necessary upkeep and repairs to fix any harm from the bad weather.

The circular stated that institutions must develop and implement strict safety protocols, including measures to mitigate the risk of flooding and ensure the structural integrity of buildings.

Additionally, day schools are now able to determine the appropriate reporting and dismissal times for students in the event of disruption due to heavy rains and flooding.

In addition, the institutions have been ordered to provide appropriate clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene supplies to prevent the spread of waterborne infections.
