Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga complimented the Agoro Sare boys’ football team on winning the secondary schools trophy for the Nyanza region, stating that the county government and the people of Nyanza were proud of the team.

The Governor spoke when she hosted the Agoro Sare football team and the Miranga Girls handball team, both of which were victorious, and expressed confidence that the school would win the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSA) football national championship.

According to Wanga, Agoro Sare is capable of defeating other teams because the region of Nyanza has a history of producing the finest soccer players. Homa Bay is the hometown of famed footballer Michael Olunga and perennial Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia.

The Governor stated that Agoro Sare’s victory in the regional football championship placed Homa Bay on the national map.

Wanga mentioned that the team had elevated Homa Bay to regional prominence and expressed their full support, hoping that they would secure the national trophy.

The Governor was accompanied by, among others, her Deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, Homa Bay County Secretary Benard Muok, and Sports County Executive Member Sarah Malit.

After defeating Kisumu Days Secondary School, the Agoro Sare football team will compete in the national championships in Kakamega County.

The Governor extended a donation of Ksh 66,000 to the team, enabling them to acquire soccer footwear. She expressed that the entire Nyanza region takes pride in their triumph and conveyed well wishes by referencing their team slogan, “One Team, One Fight.”

Homa Bay is also preparing a team to compete in the upcoming Talanta Hela competitions against other counties.

The Governor made the announcement that her administration will increase the county bursary fund from Sh2.5 million per ward to Sh4 million per ward. Homa Bay has forty wards in total.

“We have also allocated Sh6 million to improve Early Childhood Development centres in each ward,” said Wanga.

Magwanga urged the members of the county’s national team to maintain strict discipline to ensure their success. Magwanga advised, “Commit yourselves to discipline and steadfastness to enable you to defeat your opponents.”
