Another Capitation Promise: Education Ministry to Disburse Ksh 15 Billion for Schools This Week.

The Ministry of Education has announced plans to release an additional Ksh 15 billion in school capitation funds this week.

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Migos Ogamba assured school administrators that efforts were being made to address the persistent delays in disbursements.

Gov’t to Release Ksh.21B Capitation Funds to Schools on Monday – CS Ogamba

Speaking at the 60th-anniversary celebration of Kererii High School in Kisii Town, Ogamba acknowledged the financial challenges that had affected the release of funds but confirmed that the issue was being handled.

The Ministry attributed the delay in capitation to financial constraints faced by the government. CS Ogamba reassured school heads that despite these hurdles, capitation disbursements would begin next week.

He mentioned that the affected cohorts, particularly first-year and second-year students, had already received financial support through alternative funding mechanisms.

According to the CS, resources had been distributed to students, mitigating some of the adverse effects of the delays.

School Principals Raise Concerns

School principals have expressed concerns over the severe management challenges caused by delayed capitation funds.

They warned that without timely financial support, the smooth running of schools could be jeopardized.

In response, Ogamba acknowledged the difficulties and confirmed that the government had taken steps to ensure university students continued receiving funds under the old model.

He stated that Ksh 3.2 billion had already been disbursed to university students and that a new funding report would be released in the coming week.

Ogamba explained that the government had already released 25% of the expected capitation funds for secondary schools, with another Ksh 14-15 billion set for disbursement next week.

He emphasized that the Ministry was aware of the financial strain schools were experiencing and assured stakeholders that every effort was being made to ensure resources reached schools promptly.
