Baringo School Fire Destroys Dormitory, Six Students at Hospital Hill Arrested.
The principal of Baringo High School in Eldama Ravine reported that no students were harmed during the early morning fire that destroyed one of the dormitories on Monday.
Mr. Titus Ngetich stated that all students were successfully evacuated, as most were already in class for their morning preparations when the blaze broke out at 5:30 a.m.
While Mr. Ngetich expressed regret over the loss of the building and many students’ belongings, he emphasized that the safety of the students was the priority.
“We have unfortunately lost the building and most of the students’ belongings,” added Mr. Ngetich.
The Mama Ngina dormitory, one of the oldest buildings on campus, accommodated 75 students, and the incident is not expected to severely disrupt housing arrangements for those affected.
Support and Investigations
Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma confirmed that all students were safe and assured that his office would assist the school in its efforts to restore normalcy.
Mr. Joseph Mwangi, the County Director of Education, announced that the Ministry would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time.

In addition to local leaders, Eldama Ravine Assistant County Commissioner Mr. David Cheruiyot and a team from the Kenya Red Cross Society visited the school.
All stakeholders committed to supporting the school as students gear up for their national examinations scheduled for October.
six students Arrested at Hospital Hill High School
On Monday night, six students were apprehended in connection with a fire incident at Hospital Hill High School in Nairobi.
The school’s administration, along with the Westlands Subcounty director, turned over these students to the police.
Authorities suspect that these individuals were either directly involved in the incident or had prior knowledge of the planned event. Currently, the students are being held at Gigiri Police Station for further interrogation.
This incident at Hospital Hill is part of a worrying trend of fire outbreaks affecting schools in the nation. In a separate event on the same day, a dormitory at Tututha Mixed Secondary School, which had a capacity of 116 students, was completely destroyed.
Police reported that the dormitory, home to Form Four students, caught fire as they were heading to class after the morning assembly.
While the extent of property damage remains unknown, it was confirmed that no casualties occurred. The cause of this fire has yet to be determined, and officers from Kalawani Police Station attended the scene to process the incident.
Another fire incident was reported in Kiangondu Sublocation, Tharaka Nithi, where a dormitory housing 36 students at Kiangodu Day and Boarding Mixed Secondary School was engulfed in flames.
Responding officers from Chuka Police Station confirmed that no injuries were reported; however, property of unknown value was lost in the fire.

The Tharaka Nithi Fire Brigade team successfully extinguished the flames, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Police are actively investigating all recent incidents of school fires to ascertain their causes and prevent future occurrences.
