Confusion Over Teachers’ Medical Cover Due to Delayed Funds.

The ongoing confusion surrounding teachers’ medical cover has drawn attention to significant issues within the funding processes of the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).

The National Treasury has been criticized for failing to release necessary funds in a timely manner, resulting in uncertainty and frustration for educators across the country.

During a special meeting of the Kirinyaga County Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)), Mercy Ndung’u, the Second National Noman representative, highlighted the challenges teachers face due to bureaucratic obstacles.

She noted that contracts established with the TSC are not effectively facilitating the payment of dues to teachers, which is causing widespread concern among educators.

The bureaucratic hurdles, Ndung’u explained, have created an environment where teachers’ issues remain unresolved, leading to confusion regarding their medical coverage.

Echoing Ndung’u’s sentiments, KNUT Executive Secretary Patrick Kanaiyu emphasized the impact of delayed funds on the provision of health services for teachers.

He clarified that the TSC relies on timely disbursements from the National Treasury to pay health providers, who in turn offer necessary medical services to teachers.

Kanaiyu called for a reduction in bureaucratic inefficiencies to ensure that health insurance processes are streamlined and more responsive to teachers’ needs.

This situation has led to mounting anxiety among teachers, as the lack of clarity regarding their medical cover raises concerns about their well-being and access to healthcare services.

Many teachers feel that the bureaucratic processes should be simplified to expedite the release of funds and the subsequent provision of medical services.

In light of these ongoing challenges, KNUT has urged the National Treasury to take immediate action to address the funding delays and bureaucratic barriers.

They believe that resolving these issues is crucial for ensuring that teachers can access their rightful medical coverage without unnecessary obstacles.
