Court Halts National Teachers Strike Temporarily After TSC Filing
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) filed a case, prompting the Employment and Labour Relations Court to temporarily halt the ongoing national teachers strike on Tuesday.
The court scheduled the case for a mention on September 5, providing a temporary reprieve to students whose education was at risk, especially with national examinations approaching later in the term.
In a related development, the Kenya National Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET)-led nationwide strike continued to disrupt learning across the country on the same day that the Treasury released Ksh 13.5 billion to cover teachers’ salaries for July and August.

Teachers’ Grievances and Government Response
The teachers initiated the strike after the government failed to honor their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), among other grievances, leading to a significant impact on the education sector.
Julius Migos, the Education Cabinet Secretary, expressed optimism that ongoing discussions with various stakeholders would lead to a resolution.
In a message from Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos, he extended his best wishes to students as they prepared to return to school for the third term, hoping the term would bring opportunities for growth, learning, and personal development.
The teachers’ unions had not yet responded to the latest developments in the situation when they reported.
