DP Rigathi Gachagua Asks Teachers to Drink Less
Deputy President Gachagua has officially opened the 47th annual Kenya School Heads Association Conference in Mombasa County, addressing key issues impacting education and urging collective action among educators.
During his speech, DP Gachagua highlighted significant barriers to universal access to education, particularly the abuse of alcohol, drugs, and other substances among students.
“One of the key drawbacks to universal access to education is abuse of alcohol drugs and another substance.”
He acknowledged the progress made in combating this menace and called on educators to support these efforts by setting personal examples.
He urged teachers to drink less, choose the right products, and encourage others to avoid harmful substances.
“I appeal to you at the individual level to also take up this challenge by drinking less drinking the right product.”
He stated that teachers are influential opinion leaders, and their behavior can significantly impact their communities.
He emphasized that teachers should act as role models, encouraging healthy habits and sobriety among students and peers.

“People look at teachers as role model … so drink the right thing so that those who want to emulate you can also drink the right thing or even drink nothing at all.” Said Gachagua.
“We cannot transform our nation when the critical population teens and youth drink themselves to destruction.”
