Dr Aggrey Boys High School Students Killed in Bus Crash.
At least three students lost their lives when a bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident along the Wundanyi-Mwatate road in Taita Taveta County. The tragic incident occurred after the vehicle reportedly suffered brake failure, leading to a loss of control before it overturned on the busy highway.
It was reported that the deceased were students of Dr Aggrey High School in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County. They had been sent home after a fire broke out in one of the school’s dormitories on Thursday.
Additionally, the driver of the bus also perished in the crash, while several other passengers sustained critical injuries and were immediately transported to Moi Referral Hospital in Voi for urgent medical attention.
Images and videos captured at the accident site revealed the extent of destruction, with the bus appearing completely wrecked. The shattered windscreen, broken windows, displaced chairs, and deflated tyres highlighted the severity of the crash.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene where concerned locals stood at a distance, observing the aftermath, while others hurried towards the bus in an attempt to rescue those trapped under the mangled wreckage.
Shortly after, emergency responders, including firefighters from the Taita Taveta County government and local police officers, arrived to clear the wreckage from the road. Authorities swiftly cordoned off the area to facilitate investigations into the cause of the crash.
Traffic Disruptions and School Closure
As a result of the accident, a significant traffic snarl-up developed along the busy highway, forcing some motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid the congestion.
Meanwhile, Dr Aggrey High School was indefinitely closed on Saturday, February 1, following another dormitory fire that broke out earlier in the day.
The new fire erupted less than 48 hours after the previous one, which had ignited on Thursday night at around 7pm when students were heading for their evening lessons after supper.

Firefighters from the Taita Taveta County Government responded promptly, managing to extinguish the flames within thirty minutes. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in either of the two incidents.
Preliminary findings suggested that the dormitory fire could have resulted from an electrical fault, possibly linked to the ongoing heavy rains experienced across the country. Authorities continue to investigate both the fire incidents and the tragic accident that claimed multiple lives, leaving the community in mourning.
