ECDE Teachers in Bomet Deny Receiving 18 Months Salaries
A group of 127 ECDE teachers in Bomet County refuted claims that they had received 18 months’ worth of salaries from the county government.
These teachers, drawn from various Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers, labeled the claims as misleading, asserting that no funds had been transferred to their accounts.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Branch Executive Secretary Desmond Lang’at intervened, suggesting that teachers who recently claimed they had been paid were bribed to make such statements.
He highlighted that ECDE teachers were enduring significant hardship and it was shocking that some were influenced to make false declarations to the press.
Neglect and Legal Issues
Addressing the media, Lang’at criticized the county education executive and other officials for neglecting the teachers.
He expressed his dissatisfaction with the non-remittance of teachers’ NSSF contributions by their employer, a practice he termed illegal.
Lang’at emphasized that the teachers’ issues needed urgent attention and warned that failure to address these concerns could lead to a strike.
“Recently, some teachers claimed they had been paid their salaries. The heart of the matter is that ECDE teachers are suffering a lot. It’s even shocking that teachers were bribed to address the press,” he noted.

Conflicting Reports
In contrast, some teachers, during a press briefing two days earlier, claimed they had received their 18 months’ salaries and commended the county government for their dedication and support in equipping ECDE centers across the county.
