Education Committee Promises to Promote TSC-Teacher Relations
Julius Melly, Chairperson of the National Assembly Education Committee, addressing concerns in Nandi Central, emphasized the committee’s commitment to fostering positive relationships between teachers and their employer, the TSC.
Melly highlighted that ongoing disputes have hindered efforts to improve academic standards nationwide.
Melly acknowledged the validity of issues raised by JSS teachers and disclosed that the committee had urged the government to address these concerns promptly.
He stressed the committee’s role in advocating for educational reforms and ensuring effective governance in the sector.
Regarding employment initiatives, Melly announced plans to allocate funds in the upcoming 2024-25 budget for hiring 26,000 interns on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
“The issues raised by the JSS teachers are genuine. As a committee in charge of education, we have advised the government to address the issues,” he said.
Additionally, he outlined proposals to recruit qualified personnel for positions such as TVET instructors, underscoring the importance of technical skills in fostering entrepreneurship among Kenyan youth.

In advocating for national unity, Melly emphasized the significance of peaceful coexistence among all Kenyans, promoting the principles of Kenya Kwanza, which centers on fostering virtues that unite the nation.
Regarding recent protests over proposed extensions of teachers’ contracts, Melly acknowledged the discontent among interns and noted the nationwide demonstrations that ensued.
