Education CS Migos Asks Learners to Report to School Amid Teachers Strike
Parents have been encouraged to ensure that their children report to their respective primary and secondary schools for the third term reopening scheduled for Monday.
On Sunday, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos assured teachers that the government was committed to addressing all legitimate concerns raised by educators.
He mentioned that, following discussions between the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and teachers’ unions, the government has allocated resources to implement the second phase of the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), effective July 1, 2024.
The government has also provided resources to retrain teachers for the implementation of the competency-based curriculum.
Migos emphasized the government’s intention to adopt a consultative approach involving all stakeholders to achieve a satisfactory resolution of any outstanding issues.

“Following talks between the Teachers Service Commission and the unions, the government has, for instance, provided resources for the implementation of the 2nd phase of the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement, with effect from July 1, 2024,” Migos said.
Unions’ Stance on School Boycott
Despite this, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has called on its members to avoid returning to schools due to what they consider the TSC’s failure to fully implement the 2021/25 CBA.
In a National Governing Council meeting on Sunday, 68 union members voted in favor of a strike.
On the other hand, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) reversed its earlier directive for members to boycott schools.

“The government has also provided resources for retraining teachers for the implementation of the competency-based curriculum,” Migos stated.
