Embu County and Posta Kenya Partner for Education Bursary Delivery

The Embu County Education Department has formed a partnership with the Postal Corporation of Kenya to enhance the delivery of bursary cheques to educational institutions across the country.

The County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Education, Daniel Ngeranwa, emphasized the intention to utilize the company’s expertise in mail services to ensure that the cheques reach beneficiary institutions swiftly and efficiently.

He noted that in the past, they faced logistical challenges in delivering cheques, especially to schools in remote areas of the country.

Previously, the disbursement was managed centrally from the county headquarters, requiring the presence of school heads, which proved cumbersome and caused delays in cheque deliveries.

Past Challenges and Audit Queries

The central disbursement method not only delayed cheque arrival but also led to issues with acknowledging receipts, which in turn resulted in audit queries.

However, with the new arrangement, these challenges are expected to be resolved, marking an end to such audit-related issues.

Ngeranwa mentioned this after a meeting held on Tuesday with the Postal Corporation team, led by General Manager Milka Mugwe, in his office to finalize the agreement.

The Postal Corporation’s General Manager, Milka Mugwe, assured that the corporation is fully equipped to handle the task, thanks to its extensive network, ensuring the cheques are delivered to all schools, regardless of their location, at very affordable rates.

She explained that within seven days, the corporation would provide proof of delivery, thereby eliminating audit queries.

Highlighting their capacity, Mugwe mentioned that their network consists of 623 postal outlets, and they have successfully executed similar tasks for over 100 constituencies.

Future Plans and Initiatives

In addition to the cheque delivery service, the Postal Corporation is also exploring other partnerships with Embu County.

These include sending mails and Express Mail Service (EMS) items to other counties and even offshore destinations.

They are also considering sending a single customized success card from the county to all candidates taking national exams towards the end of the year. Furthermore, they discussed the possibility of introducing an inter-county letter-writing competition to enhance learners’ writing skills.
