The candidates are scheduled for interviews at the PSC offices located off Harambee Avenue, Nairobi. The exact dates and times will be posted on the Commission’s website.

The Public Service Commission has invited members of the public to provide credible information regarding the shortlisted candidates.

Such information must be submitted through sworn affidavits to the Secretary/CEO of the Commission or via email at [email protected] by January 24, 2025.

This invitation follows the announcement of 2,517 applications received for the roles. The recruitment process aims to identify individuals with the required qualifications for these critical government positions.

Recruitment Timeline and Constitutional Mandate

Applications for the positions were announced on November 20, 2024, with interested individuals given until December 4, 2024, to apply.

The PSC stated that its mandate to recommend nominees for principal secretary positions is anchored in Article 155(3)(a) of the Constitution of Kenya. The Commission invited applications from individuals with proven expertise and leadership skills.

PSC Chairperson Anthony Muchiri noted that the vacancies were created by reassignments within the executive, necessitating a fresh recruitment process. The announcement came shortly after the signing of performance contracts by the current principal secretaries at State House.

The Commission outlined specific requirements for applicants, including a general understanding of government functions, leadership and management expertise, and adherence to Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

Selected candidates will serve as accounting officers for their respective State Departments, managing financial and human resources while implementing performance systems.

The PSC emphasized the importance of these roles in driving efficiency and accountability within government operations.

Previous Appointments

President William Ruto previously appointed a 51-member team of principal secretaries, which was approved by the National Assembly. This reshuffle signals a continued effort to enhance service delivery in key government departments.
