Form Two Student Dies After Altercation at School.

A family in Runyenjes, Embu County, is grappling with immense grief after their 15-year-old son, Shelton Caleb, a Form Two student at St. Francis Kanja Secondary School, tragically died following an altercation with a schoolmate.

The promising young life was cut short due to injuries sustained during the confrontation earlier last week.

Shelton’s father, Kiema Luke, recounted how his son was injured on the arm during the altercation and initially received treatment at a local facility. However, the family’s hopes were shattered when his condition rapidly deteriorated.

Efforts to seek answers from the school have compounded the family’s anguish. Despite an agreement to meet with the principal, Shelton’s mother, Leah Kiema, reported that the family was met with locked gates upon arrival.

Repeated calls and messages to the principal went unanswered, leaving the family feeling abandoned and suspicious.

Leah expressed her frustration, saying that the lack of communication raises concerns about potential concealment of information. A family spokesperson reiterated their plea for transparency, noting that they cannot mourn in peace without clarity on what transpired.

Investigation Underway

Embu OCPD Anthony Maina confirmed that a report on Shelton’s death has been filed, and investigations are ongoing. He emphasized that the post-mortem examination will provide critical insights into the cause of death.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and concern within the community, with many questioning the safety measures in schools and the transparency of institutions in handling such matters.

A relative remarked, “This is not just about Shelton; it’s about ensuring no other family suffers such a loss.”

Meanwhile, Kiema Luke’s grief was palpable as he expressed disbelief over his son’s death, describing it as an unimaginable loss. “We are still struggling to understand what exactly happened to our son,” he lamented.

The family continues to demand accountability from the school, insisting that justice for Shelton is paramount. The community stands in solidarity, urging authorities to expedite investigations and ensure transparency in the findings.

As the investigation progresses, the family’s pain and unanswered questions remain a stark reminder of the urgent need for accountability and improved safety in schools.

“His death came as a devastating blow. We are still struggling to understand what exactly happened to our son,” said Kiema, speaking through tears.
