Mathew Nyamlori, a man who captured national attention for his relentless pursuit of education, sitting the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams nine times, has passed away after battling gastric cancer. His death was announced on Monday, January 20, by his close friend, Okoto Nyuka BeL.
Okoto disclosed that Nyamlori’s final days were marked by a sense of peace and acceptance. He shared that Nyamlori had even made personal arrangements, signaling his readiness for the inevitable. On the morning of his passing at 7:00 am, Okoto and Nyamlori’s brother were by his side as requested.
Nyamlori gained national fame for his academic perseverance. His goal was to secure a scholarship to further his education, prompting him to repeatedly sit for the KCPE exams. Beginning his journey in the late 1990s, he aimed to improve his grades to qualify for financial aid.
Despite interruptions caused by financial hardships, which forced him to work as a casual laborer in a milling factory, Nyamlori remained steadfast. His persistence paid off on his ninth attempt when he finally earned a scholarship to Nairobi School.
