Government Announces Fully Funded UK Scholarships for Kenyan Students
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom, has announced the opening of applications for full scholarships for Kenyan citizens pursuing Master’s and PhD studies in the UK for the 2025 academic year.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance academic and professional development within the country.
A notice on MyGov on Tuesday, August 27, detailed the scholarships, which aim to significantly advance the education of selected individuals. The program underscores the country’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and professional expertise.
These scholarships, which cover full financial expenses at any approved UK university hosting CSC scholars, will award a total of 10 PhD candidates and 19 Master’s students.
This initiative not only supports individual growth but also aims to enrich Kenya’s development through the skills and knowledge that the scholars will contribute upon their return.
Application Timeline and Process
Prospective applicants are advised to prepare early, as the online application portal opens on September 10, with a firm deadline set for October 15, 2024.

After submitting online, candidates are required to submit printed copies of their completed applications to the Ministry of Education by 5:00 p.m. on October 17, 2024.
Eligibility Requirements
- Master’s Applicants:The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with at least a 2nd class upper division from a recognized university.
- You must submit two supporting statements from referees.
- A detailed proposal outlining how their area of study will benefit Kenya’s development.
- PhD Applicants:Must have a Master’s degree.
- Must provide similar referee statements as the Master’s applicants.
- The application must include a supporting statement from a potential UK supervisor.
Selection Process
To reflect the competitive nature of the selection process, the Ministry of Education emphasized that only shortlisted candidates would receive contact.
The Ministry also warned that nomination does not ensure selection or placement, as the CSC holds the final decision. Furthermore, submitting falsified documents will have legal consequences.

Applicants must follow the application guidelines meticulously to ensure their submissions are considered. The process involves completing an online application through the CSC website, followed by downloading and completing a Standard Scholarship Application Form from the Ministry of Education’s website.
The Directorate of Higher Education must receive three hard copies of this form and certified supporting documents.
