The government is set to benefit significantly from the recently concluded National School Census, following a two-month data collection initiative led by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), according to two senior officials.
During the closing ceremony of the data collection exercise at Enoomatasani Girls High School in Ngong, Kajiado County, two principal secretaries—Dr.
Belio Kipsang of Basic Education and Mr. James Muhati of Planning—emphasized the value of the data.
They confirmed that the information gathered would be crucial for both the education sector and the Planning Department.

Mr. Muhati, the Principal Secretary for Economic Planning, delivered his remarks through Planning Secretary Timothy Gakuru.
He stated that the census was conducted across all 47 counties through face-to-face interactions, targeting all basic learning institutions in Kenya. These included:
- Pre-primary schools
- Primary schools
- Junior schools
- Secondary schools
Both public and private institutions, including international and special schools, were covered in the exercise.

Mr. Muhati praised the census, describing it as a groundbreaking initiative expected to transform operations within the socio-economic sectors, particularly education.
