Government Halts Recruitment of Job Seekers Abroad.
The government has paused the ongoing recruitment of job seekers abroad, an initiative led by the Ministry of Labour, to expedite the processing of applications already submitted.
Labour Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua stated that the decision was made to evaluate progress and align with both recruiting agencies’ requirements and job seekers’ needs.
This recruitment drive, conducted across six counties, attracted an overwhelming number of participants.
Dr. Mutua emphasized the importance of keeping the National Assembly and other government stakeholders informed of emerging trends to support and complement efforts to secure opportunities for Kenyan job seekers abroad.

Dr. Mutua, speaking at the Nyandarua National Polytechnic while supervising the exercise, announced that the recruitment process would resume after December 12th.
Accompanied by Labour Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime, he explained that the suspension is due to the high volume of applications, which has exceeded 5,900, requiring time for thorough processing to avoid overwhelming recruitment agencies.
Recruitment Outcomes and Challenges
The ongoing recruitment has drawn a significant number of young job seekers, with most opportunities available in Gulf countries. However, many applicants have expressed concerns over the high agency fees for processing visas and passports, describing them as unaffordable.
In response, Dr. Mutua encouraged successful applicants to seek financial support from family and friends, highlighting that the lucrative nature of the jobs abroad would enable them to repay such assistance quickly.
