The Ministry of Education is expected to issue directives regarding the specific schools and areas for reopening.

A check revealed that over 1900 schools have been impacted by flooding, with some completely submerged.

To address the flooding situation and prepare for school reopening, Ndindi Nyoro, chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, assured that Parliament would not limit spending on flood mitigation measures.

He emphasized that all expenditures for this purpose would be approved by Parliament. The government had earlier requested Ksh10.6 billion to tackle the ongoing deluge causing havoc nationwide.

Collins Oyuu, Chairman of the Kenya National Union of Teachers, mentioned that the Ministry will need to reassess the academic calendar and possibly adjust the dates for the KCSE exams. As of now, the ministry has not released any directives regarding a revised calendar.
