The Education CS also called upon parents and guardians to ensure that their children return to school as scheduled. He mentioned that the ministry had already released Ksh.21.8 billion as capitation funds to all basic education institutions to facilitate the smooth reopening of schools.

Consultative Approach and Future Collaboration

Ogamba further stated that the government, through a consultative approach involving all stakeholders, would work towards a satisfactory resolution of all outstanding issues. The aim is to create a favorable working environment for the teachers, enhancing their overall well-being and productivity.

KNUT decided to cancel the planned nationwide strike after a day-long meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

The union’s Secretary General, Collins Henry Oyuu, announced that the NEC had resolved to withdraw the strike notice, which was set to expire at midnight on the same day. The union directed all teachers to resume their duties on Monday, August 26, 2024.

KNUT stated that the decision to call off the strike was made after carefully considering all available options and evaluating the level of commitment from both the government and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Although the union acknowledged that not all steps taken by the government and TSC were satisfactory, they believed that there was a genuine willingness to meet the union’s demands.
