Governor Natembeya Pledges to Clear KSh 2.7M School Fees for Muungano Students.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has vowed to clear all pending school fees for students at Muungano Secondary School in Kiminini Sub-county. This initiative, amounting to KSh 2.7 million, aims to ease financial burdens and support students’ education.
During his address to the school community, the governor emphasized that the financial support comes with expectations. He urged students to maintain discipline and follow school rules, stating that fee payment should not be an excuse for misconduct.
He also warned against absenteeism, emphasizing that now, with the financial burden lifted, every student is expected to attend school regularly.
Natembeya cautioned that he would not demand refunds from teachers if students fail to comply but would instead personally visit the homes of those absent from school.
The governor praised the determination of young girls who returned to school after facing teenage pregnancies. He commended their resilience, stating that continuing education after such challenges is a significant step toward securing a brighter future.
He highlighted the importance of focusing on recovery and progress rather than dwelling on past mistakes.
Challenges at Muungano Secondary School
Muungano Secondary School has reportedly recorded the highest number of Grade E results in Trans Nzoia County.
This situation has prompted the governor to not only offer financial aid but also mentorship to improve academic performance. He expressed optimism, saying his long-term vision is to see future leaders, including a governor, emerge from the school.

Governor Natembeya has previously voiced skepticism about the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). He labeled the system confusing and ineffective, citing unclear grading and examination processes that hinder accurate assessment of student progress.
He also criticized the Ministry of Education for failing to fulfill its promise of free education, pointing out delays in the disbursement of capitation funds as a major obstacle for schools.
