Govt Allocates Sh3.5 Billion to Primary Schools for 1,000 Classrooms Construction — CS Machogu

Education Cabinet Secretary Mr. Ezekiel Machogu says that approximately 30% of the national budget for the 2024-2025 financial year has been dedicated to education.

The CS noted that they are already providing Sh3.5 billion to primary schools for building 1,000 additional classrooms nationwide.

Additionally, a further Sh3.9 billion, which will be supplemented by the National Government–Constituency Development Fund, has been allocated for the construction of classrooms at the constituency level through NG-CDF.

He emphasized the importance of proper utilization of these funds to enhance the quality of education across the country.

Breakdown of Funds

The allocated funds are substantial, aimed at various levels of education:

  • Primary Schools: Ksh 2.7 billion
  • Junior Schools: Ksh 14 billion
  • Secondary Schools: Ksh 18.8 billion

“Already, we are providing Sh3.5 billion to primary schools for building 1,000 additional classrooms countrywide. A further Sh3.9 billion, to be topped up by the National Government–Constituency Development Fund, has also been provided for the construction of classrooms at the constituency level through NG-CDF,” noted the CS

In addition to the recent disbursements, earlier allocations included:

  • Primary Schools: Ksh 4.7 billion
  • Junior Schools: Ksh 15.1 billion
  • Secondary Schools: Ksh 32.4 billion

“The roll out of the CBC especially in senior schools requires we all work together with you principals as the primary actors. The government is committed to providing you with all the support possible to guarantee success,” said the CS.

Call for Efficient Utilization

CS Machogu urged school administrators and principals to utilize these funds prudently and efficiently, stressing their statutory and moral duty to ensure the funds benefit their institutions and students.
