Grade 9 Classroom Construction on Track, Education CS Ogamba Assures.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba provided an update on the progress of classroom construction for Grade 9, confirming that it is advancing in several phases.
According to Ogamba, the initial phase of 3,500 classrooms has been completed. The second phase, which includes 7,500 classrooms, is 57 percent finished, while the third phase, consisting of 5,000 classrooms, is at various stages of construction.
He assured that by the January school opening, all 16,000 targeted classrooms should be ready to accommodate students transitioning into Grade 9.
In addressing staffing requirements, Ogamba announced the recruitment of 20,000 new teachers to support the implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Grade 9.
Furthermore, he confirmed that 46,000 teachers have achieved permanent and pensionable status, with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) actively retooling staff for Grade 9 classrooms.

“Together with TSC, we’re working to meet these staffing needs to ensure Grade 9 learners receive the required instruction,” he added.
Ogamba underscored the joint efforts with TSC to meet staffing demands and ensure that Grade 9 students receive adequate instruction.
Preparations for Grade 9 Transition Under CBC
The government is actively preparing to transition Grade 8 students into Grade 9 as part of the new Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Ogamba highlighted that preparations for the Grade 9 curriculum are underway, with classes and resources set to be fully operational by January. This includes the deployment of new teachers, classrooms, and learning materials, ensuring a smooth transition for learners.
