Grade 9 Learners Asked to Register for KJSEA 2025 Before March 28: Registration Guidelines.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that the registration for the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and the Kenya Pre-vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) will commence on March 3 and conclude on March 28, 2025.

Assessment centers must adhere to the registration requirements and refer to the User Manual available on cbasa.knec.ac.ke for guidance.

Heads of institutions are required to register Grade 9 learners for KJSEA through the registration portal, which will be open from March 3 to March 28. Automatic uploads from the Grade 9 portal will not be permitted.

Eligible candidates must be listed in the Grade 9 database, possess a KPSEA Performance Report, and have School-Based Assessment (SBA) scores for Grades 7 and 8. Registering ghost candidates is considered malpractice and may result in the school’s deregistration as a KNEC assessment center.

Institutions must ensure accurate registration details, including learners’ names as per their birth certificates, gender, birth year, citizenship status, religious education preference, and any special needs.

Transfers must be processed online before April 4 to prevent double registration. Additionally, institutions should confirm that SBA scores for Grades 7 and 8 are uploaded before completing the registration process.

Teachers must assess learners’ readiness before registering them for KPLEA through the designated portal. The registration process is institution-based and follows the same deadlines.

Non-Citizen Learner Registration and Fees

The government will cover assessment fees for all learners in public and private schools except non-citizens. Non-citizen learners must pay a fee of KES 4,500 via the e-Citizen platform to register for KJSEA or KPLEA.

Schools with fewer than five candidates cannot register as independent assessment centers and should coordinate with their Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs) to find an approved KNEC assessment center. Centers with fewer than 30 candidates will be hosted at designated centers identified by SCDEs.

KNEC retains the authority to reassign centers if necessary. The ongoing inspection of new institutions seeking registration as KNEC assessment centers will conclude by February 21, 2025.

Schools must submit the required documentation, including a valid registration certificate, completed inspection forms, an application form, and proof of assessment center registration fee payment (KES 5,000 for public schools and KES 15,000 for private schools).

Newly created sub-counties must submit a Kenya Gazette notice, a list of schools with previous and proposed codes, distribution center details, and relevant local administration information for coding and assessment distribution.

Important Reminders for Institutions

Heads of institutions and SCDEs must use their KNEC credentials to access the cbasa portal securely. Password security is crucial, and in case of loss, institutions should contact KNEC via email or their SCDE. Newly approved assessment centers will receive login details and must change their passwords upon initial access.

Institutions must verify their designated collection centers for assessment materials. Additionally, they will receive instructions regarding the submission of registration documents to their respective SCDEs.

In compliance with the Data Protection Act (2019), assessment centers must obtain parental consent for data collection and inform parents that data will only be used for assessment purposes. Candidates must verify and sign nominal rolls to confirm data accuracy.

KNEC emphasizes that the registration portal will close on March 28, 2025, with no late registration allowed. All stakeholders, including parents and candidates, must adhere to the deadlines to avoid inconveniences.
