Grieving Family Blames School for KCSE Candidate’s Death Days Before Finishing Exams.

A family in Kisii County is devastated following the untimely death of their 18-year-old daughter, Beryl Nyaboke, a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate at Ogande Girls High School in Homa Bay.

Nyaboke’s death occurred just days before she was set to complete her exams.

Nyaboke had written most of her KCSE papers when she reportedly fell ill. Her condition quickly deteriorated, prompting her transfer to Homa Bay Hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, her grandmother found her unconscious in bed and unable to communicate.

The mother later revealed that although she was informed of her daughter’s health complications, she never anticipated the situation would become life-threatening.

She expressed her anguish, wondering what had happened before Nyaboke lost consciousness.

Cause of Death and Family’s Reaction

Hospital records revealed that Nyaboke succumbed to severe malaria. The family received the devastating news in the early hours of November 11, leaving them heartbroken and demanding answers.

They are calling on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, alleging negligence on the part of the school.

The family maintained that Nyaboke was in perfect health when she left home, blaming the school for failing to act appropriately.

The school, however, denied any wrongdoing. Ogande Girls High School Principal Jeniffer Otolo indicated that the matter was being addressed by the Homa Bay County Education office.

A family member criticized the school for failing to provide clear explanations, lamenting that they had sent a healthy student to the institution but were now receiving her body.

The student’s remains were transferred to Nyangena Hospital morgue in Kisii as the family continues to seek answers and justice for their daughter’s untimely demise.

“We presented to them a student who was doing exams. We want them to explain why they are returning to us a basin and his body. They are supposed to, at least, explain what happened?” another member of the family demanded.
