Grieving Parents Demand Investigation into Daughter’s Death, Barred from St. Angela’s Girls.
A family from Mutunguni, Kitui County, is seeking justice following the mysterious death of their daughter, a Form Two student at St. Angela’s Girls’ Kitui.
The family, struggling to come to terms with the incident, went to the school on Monday, hoping to find answers.
However, they were met with resistance, as the school administration did not grant them access to the premises, leaving them to camp outside the gate all day without receiving any information.
The family expressed frustration over the lack of transparency from the school’s management. According to the victim’s sister, the school had contacted the family, but upon their arrival, the gates were locked, and no explanation was provided.
Despite the presence of officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the family reported that no action had been taken.

Gabriel Mulevu, the assistant chief from the area who was at the scene, refused to disclose the reasons behind the school’s decision to block the parents’ entry.
Allegations of Negligence
The parents insisted that they deserved answers, questioning why they were not informed about their daughter’s illness, which they claimed had persisted for two weeks prior to her hospitalization.
The family considered this omission a clear sign of neglect by the school administration. They recounted that they only became aware of their child’s deteriorating health when it had reached a critical stage.
By then, it was too late, as she was admitted to the emergency unit at Kitui Referral Hospital, where she succumbed to complications five days later.
Doctors confirmed that the cause of death was diabetes, prompting the family, alongside local leaders, to demand a thorough investigation to establish whether negligence contributed to her death.
Kitui Central Deputy Coordinator Dorcus Rono advised the family to follow the appropriate procedures by recording official statements to facilitate the commencement of investigations.

In a similar case in September, the parents of a boy at Kamusinga School demanded an investigation after their son died in what the school described as a suicide.
The student allegedly fell into a septic tank, but his family rejected the school’s explanation, suspecting a cover-up of potential negligence. Their suspicions were further fueled by accounts from other students who disputed the suicide claim.
