Heartbreak in Nyamira as Girl’s KCSE Success Comes After Her Death.
A wave of grief has engulfed a family in Kiamagera Village, Nyamira, Kisii County, after the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results highlighted their late daughter’s remarkable academic performance.
Mitchelle Kemunto, aged 19, scored a B- in the 2024 KCSE exams, a result that has reopened the wounds of her untimely death just two days after completing the examinations.
The family, led by her mother, Vane Moraa, expressed their sorrow, emphasizing that Mitchelle had aspired to become the family’s first doctor.
Moraa recounted how her daughter’s dream of pursuing medicine made her passing even more devastating. The family described Mitchelle as a determined and ambitious young woman who persevered through challenges to chase her goals.
A Battle with Epilepsy
Mitchelle’s mother disclosed that her daughter succumbed after a prolonged struggle with epilepsy. Speaking through tears, she described Mitchelle as a fighter who managed to balance her studies despite her health challenges.
The tragic news of her performance, Moraa noted, compounded their pain, as the family could only confirm the results two days after their release.
According to Moraa, she was initially hesitant to check her daughter’s results, overwhelmed by grief. It was only after two days that she contacted the school principal, who informed her of the impressive B- grade Mitchelle had attained. The realization brought both pride and sorrow to the grieving family.
Joseph Ombati, Mitchelle’s uncle, described the situation as bittersweet. He noted that while the results demonstrated Mitchelle’s potential, they also intensified the family’s grief.
