HELB Announces 2024-2025 Postgraduate Scholarship Applications: How to Apply

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened applications for partial postgraduate scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Kenyan students enrolled in Master’s and Ph.D. programs at local public or private universities recognized by the Commission for University Education (CUE) are eligible to apply.

Scholarship Details

The scholarships aim to ease the financial burden of higher education for Kenyan students pursuing advanced degrees.

The scholarship values are Kshs. 200,000 for Master’s programs and Kshs. 450,000 for Ph.D. programs.

The funding is available for a maximum of two years for Master’s students and three years for Ph.D. students.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a Kenyan student admitted to a full-time or part-time Master’s or Ph.D. program in a local public or private university recognized by the CUE.
  2. Have a minimum of a Second-Class Upper Division in their undergraduate studies.
  3. Be pursuing a course in Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, or Mathematics (STEAM), as preference will be given to these disciplines.
  4. If the applicant is a HELB loan beneficiary, they must either be currently repaying their loan or have fully repaid it.

Application Process

Applicants must follow these steps to apply for the scholarship:

  1. Register and access the 2024-2025 Postgraduate Scholarship Application form available online at HELB’s website.
  2. Complete the application form and submit it online.

Important Notes

  1. A non-refundable application fee of Kshs. 3,000 is required, payable via E-CITIZEN when the payment tab is clicked on the application portal.
  2. Applicants are advised not to pay any individuals to process their HELB Postgraduate Scholarship Applications.
  3. Persons with special needs and those from marginalized counties are encouraged to apply.
  4. The application deadline is August 31, 2024.
