High Court Awards Ksh.600,000 in Damages to Expelled Makini School Students.
High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi has determined that Makini School infringed upon the dignity and mental well-being of two minors, granting them Ksh.600,000 in damages.
The expulsion of the children resulted from an alleged conflict between the Makini School and their parent.
On July 7, 2023, head teacher Catherine Njuguna reportedly removed the students from class and handed them termination letters, instructing them to wait for their parents at the pickup area.
The minors, represented by their mother, took legal action against the institution, arguing that the expulsion was unwarranted.
Advocate Apollo Mboya informed the court that the children were exemplary students with no prior record of disciplinary infractions.

He contended that the Makini School’s decision to expel them inflicted cruel and degrading treatment, resulting in significant emotional trauma.
Mboya characterized the school’s actions as rash, unnecessary, unreasonable, vengeful, oppressive, excessive, and biased, stressing the severe distress imposed on both the minors and their family.
