Japanese Embassy Announces Ksh226k Internship Opportunities for Kenyans
The Japanese Embassy in Kenya has introduced promising internship opportunities in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information Technology (IT) for Kenyan engineers.
The announcement, made earlier this week, marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between Japan and Kenya, aiming to boost the careers of aspiring Kenyan tech enthusiasts and propel Kenya further into the digital age.
The internship programme, organized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), is designed to offer Kenyan students immersive experiences in cutting-edge tech environments.
Partnerships with approximately 30 Japanese private companies will allow interns to participate in various activities, such as digital transformation projects, market research, and service development for international markets.
Successful candidates can earn up to Ksh226,897 during the three-month internship period in Japan.
The internship, running from August to December, includes a rigorous selection process involving a coding contest and interviews.
Although the number of applicants is unlimited, each company can host a maximum of five interns.
The application deadlines are June 20th, 2024, for IT Engineers and June 30th, 2024, for AI Engineers (JST).
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Align with the programme’s core objectives, demonstrating a commitment to furthering the internationalisation goals of Japanese enterprises, expanding global business outreach, and fostering connections with overseas academic institutions through active participation in the internship.
- Possess a Kenyan passport.
- Be proficient in either English or Japanese to ensure effective communication within the dynamic work environments of Japanese companies.
- Be ready to fully engage in the internship and training activities hosted by participating companies, adhering to the scheduled agenda outlined by the programme’s administration office.
- Comply with any additional requirements set by individual host companies.
The programme office guarantees comprehensive support for interns, including visa procedures, air tickets, accommodation, and internship insurance.
Interns will also receive a daily living allowance of 3,000 yen (about Ksh2,500), as well as coverage for round-trip airfare, accommodation, and local transportation.
Beyond monetary compensation, interns will benefit from learning opportunities with leading technology companies such as Toshiba, Casio, Canon, and Hitachi.
This exposure promises to enhance the skill sets of Kenyan interns, providing invaluable expertise and boosting their careers.
