JSS Intern Teachers Issue TSC Deadline for Confirmation
Kakamega County’s Junior Secondary School (JSS) interns have declared that they will not attend classes until they receive Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) employment terms.
Additionally, they insist on receiving compensation for a full year, citing consistent underpayment by the government.
The interns, expressing their dissatisfaction, highlighted that the low morale among them could adversely impact their teaching quality, potentially resulting in the students’ poor academic performance.
Following a peaceful demonstration throughout Kakamega town, the interns sought an audience with the Teachers Service Commission director to address their concerns.

One of their representatives, Francis Odero, told the media that despite having the necessary qualifications, skills, and certification to become full-time teachers, most of them are facing hardship.
He emphasized their demand for immediate confirmation by the government, with a deadline of July 1st this year.
“We are going through tough moments and we are demanding that the government to confirm us with immediate effect and the confirmation should not go beyond the 1st of July this year,” he said.
Odero also raised concerns about certain Members of Parliament issuing TSC letters to public school teachers, a responsibility he argued belongs solely to the Commission.
