Kapsabet Boys High KCSE Top Scorers Airlifted to Mombasa for Mentorship Program.
Fourteen students from Kapsabet Boys High School, who achieved an impressive mean grade of A plain (84 points) in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), have been awarded a two-day mentorship trip to Mombasa. The initiative is sponsored by the Lake Victoria North Water Development Agency (LVNWD).
Abraham Cheruyoit, Director of the LVNWD Agency, explained that during their 2023 mentoring visit to Kapsabet Boys, the agency committed to reward any student scoring a mean grade of 84 points with a trip to Mombasa for mentorship training.
He noted that the school’s performance had improved significantly, with 14 students achieving the target grade in 2024, compared to just five in 2023.
Cheruyoit highlighted that the agency was fulfilling its promise to inspire and reward academic excellence. He addressed the top students, emphasizing the importance of honoring commitments to motivate learners.
The Lake Victoria North Water Development Agency initiated a mentorship program in 2023 across six counties within its jurisdiction. The program aims to guide students as they transition to higher education and prepare for life beyond school.
Cheruyoit pointed out the importance of guiding young learners on key aspects such as responsible social media use, career development, and navigating life after college. He announced plans to expand the program to 15 counties to reach more students.
The agency has already partnered with several schools in the North Rift region, including Salvation Army Matunda, St. Anne, and Songolia Day Secondary School in Nandi.
Collaborations and Scholarships
Cheruyoit mentioned that other government agencies, such as Kenya Industrial Estate, Kenya Seed, and Lake Basin Development Authority, have shown interest in pooling resources to support mentorship programs.
The LVNWD Agency also supports students from disadvantaged backgrounds by offering scholarships, ensuring they have the opportunity to continue their education. Cheruyoit underscored the importance of mentoring young people to develop a reliable workforce for critical professions such as engineering.

Ezekiel Kipchumba, a teacher and the 2024 Form Four Class Coordinator at Kapsabet Boys, acknowledged that many students excel in high school but struggle in tertiary institutions. He explained that the school identified the need to involve external agencies to mentor students and prepare them for life after high school.
Kipchumba expressed gratitude to the LVNWD Agency for organizing the mentorship program and offering students an unforgettable learning opportunity during their Mombasa tour.
By fulfilling its promises and engaging with students at a deeper level, the LVNWD Agency is not only rewarding academic achievement but also preparing future leaders to make informed decisions in their careers and lives.
